Philippians 3:13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me.

Imagine for a moment that you’re a soldier heading into battle. It’s life and death stuff. But the last thing you did before leaving home was to have a massive argument with your wife or husband. Question: How well prepared are you to face the enemy?

Sure, it’s a hypothetical question but you can just imagine, right? You’re about to put your life on the line, and the last thing you did was yell at the one person whom you love the most.

That’s not a good frame of mind to be in as you step into the firing line. And it’s the same in our day-to-day lives. Unless you make peace with your past, unless you deal with your regrets, they’re going to haunt you every day going forward. That’s no way to live life. Writes the Apostle Paul …

Philippians 3:13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me.

Paul had more reason to regret his past than any of us. Before He met Jesus on the road to Damascus, he’d mercilessly persecuted Christians. Many had died at his hand. Then he met Jesus – and Jesus, let me tell you, changes everything.

So, as you process your regrets, as you seek to make peace with your past, may these words fill your heart:

There’s one thing I do: I forget what’s in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
