John 1:1-5 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. (NRSV)

Okay, so Jesus probably wasn’t born in late December. The shepherds would hardly have been out tending their flocks by night in the dead of an Israeli winter.
But the idea of sending Jesus into this world to save us from our sin – our rebellion against God, all those things that we and others have done to ruin our lives and this world, bringing so much pain and suffering – it’s an idea that was born before time began. In fact, it’s an eternal idea. It’s always been in the mind and the heart of God.

The Apostle John refers to Jesus as “the Word” – God speaking to us. So, do you remember back there in Genesis Chapter One the very first thing that God spoke into existence? God said, “Let there be light!” And light began to shine.
And Jesus came to be the light of this world, your world. He came to shine His light over your life. A light that shines into the darkness, a light that the darkness cannot overcome. That’s Christmas. And …
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
