Download audio fileThe thing with sickness is that sometimes we can feel unwell. It just kind of creeps up on us slowly, until we know there’s something wrong but we just can’t quite put our finger on it.
I was watching some builders digging a small trench recently. It was only about a foot and a half deep, eight feet long, and a couple of feet wide … not very big at all. But anyone who’s ever dug a hole will know that looks can be deceiving.
And sure enough, the mound of dirt that came out of this “little” trench was huge. It looked as though there was three times more dirt than could ever possibly have come out of the hole.
But that’s how it is when it’s packed in so tight. It’s not until you dig it out that you realise how much there really is.
I guess it’s like the rubbish that we hide away in our hearts; the bad attitudes, the selfishness, the pride. We kid ourselves, “Oh, come on. It’s no big deal, really.”
It’s not until we let Jesus in there to dig it out that we realise how much it’s been robbing us of life.

It’s funny how much evil can be tucked away within, without us ever realising it. But here’s the amazing thing – whilst you and I are often blinded to our own sin, whilst you and I often struggle with the sickness of heart and mind that God is talking about here through the prophet Jeremiah – make no mistake …
God is in the excavation business. And when we let Him loose, watch out! He will bring healing to our soul.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
