It’s funny how easily the phrase “the grace of God” rolls off the tongue. You hear Christians saying it all the time. But how often, I wonder, do we actually stop and think about what that actually means… the grace of God?

I happen to think that becoming an organ donor is one of the most obvious things that any of us can do.

I mean … if I’m killed in a car accident tomorrow, why shouldn’t someone else have the gift of life through my kidneys or liver or heart. I certainly won’t need them. To me being an organ donor is just an obvious thing to do.

But the people who I really admire are the ones who donate a kidney to a friend or relative, while they’re still alive. I mean, it’s easy enough to give your organs away when you don’t need them anymore, but when you’re alive that really is a sacrificial gift of life.

Let’s take that up one more huge notch now. Imagine not just giving a spare organ, but your whole life for someone else. That blows the mind and that’s why, when I look at what Jesus did for me on that Cross, I just can’t comprehend it.

The Son of God brutally nailed to a cross, hanging there in agony, gasping for air, dying an agonising death to pay for all my stupid mistakes … there just aren’t any words to describe how I feel.

A gift of life? The gift of life. Eternal life.

Romans 6:23
When people sin, they earn what sin pays—death. But God gives his people a free gift—eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

That’s the grace of God in Jesus Christ. And make no mistake, it cost Him everything: Everything, in order to purchase eternal life – everything – for you and me.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
