Matthew 6:6 ...when you pray, go into your room and close the door. Then pray to your Father. He is there in that private place. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.

It strikes me that religion, or religiosity if I can call it that, is a fake. You go through all the motions, but in the end it doesn’t yield anything real. Have you been there too?

What we all want, if we’re going to have a relationship with God, is something that’s real, something that means something, something that makes a difference especially when times are tough.

I received an email recently from a dear friend of mine, Lowell Wertz, a 40 plus year missionary to Africa. This is what he said:

“I’d like to share two experiences where God required faith from me. Joy in the Harvest [the ministry that he leads] had $3,000 in the bank when we arrived in Tanzania. A few weeks later, ten thousand starving refugees walked into Kigoma. I knew what God wanted us to do. In faith, we used all our money to buy food for the refugees. There’s always a part of you that feels scared when you’re on the ragged edge of faith. But another part of you knows something very good is happening. My faith had grown and I believed that God could provide everything we needed. God wants our relationship and faith in Him to be real.”

And right there is the key. We want our relationship with God to be real, but to make that happen our faith needs to be real. So …

Matthew 6:6 … when you pray, go into your room and close the door. Then pray to your Father. He is there in that private place. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you.

When you’re on that “ragged edge of faith”, get real.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
