Download audio fileCan I ask you today, what sort of impact are you having in this world, in the lives of the people around you? A good impact, a moderate impact, or a lousy impact? What sort of legacy are you going to leave behind?
Life seems to be full of trade-offs … between achieving your goals for instance, and doing the right thing. Between reaching the objective, and treating people well.
It’s easy to win at whatever you’re trying to win at, if you’re prepared to walk over the top of others to get there, if you cut a corner here, make a compromise there, cheat a little bit, push a just that bit harder.
But what’s that saying to the people around you – your spouse, your children, the people you lead, your co-workers? If that’s how you live your life, how ready are they to celebrate with you when you do win?
Daniel in the Old Testament was someone who managed to win, without making those trade-offs. He became incredibly successful not by compromising, not by treading on people, but by doing what was right.
Daniel 12:3 Wise people will shine as bright as the sky. Those who teach others to live right will shine like stars forever and ever.
What, pray tell is wisdom? Well, in the context of Daniel’s life it meant winning, being successful, by doing the right thing. By honouring God. By putting Him first. Even on pain of death, Daniel refused to compromise.
I’m sure you’ve had one or two people like that in your life over the years as well. They stand head and shoulders above everyone else, don’t they? They shine like stars in your esteem.
The question for us though, is this: am I, are you one of those stars?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
