Round about now, most of us are processing the year that’s just been … How did it go? Was it a good one or a bad one?

So … how did it go? Did you succeed, are you a better person, did you reach your goals or not? And how does all that play into how you feel about next year?

I’m full of questions today but for good reason, because God is in this space with you. He wants to be a powerful, positive part of leading you forward into the future that He has planned for you. And right now, there’s nothing better for us to do than to allow Him to speak into how we process the year that’s just been, and how we look ahead to the one that’s about to come.

Die meeste van ons besin sekerlik nou oor die jaar wat pas verby is … Hoe het dit gegaan? Was dit ‘n goeie of ‘n slegte een?

Nouja … hoe het dit gegaan? Was jy suksesvol? Is jy ‘n beter mens? Het jy jou doelwitte bereik, of nie? En hoe affekteer dit die wyse waarop jy oor volgende jaar voel?

En hoekom is ek vandag so vol vrae? Ek wil jou herinner daaraan dat God in hierdie tyd met jou is. Hy wil ‘n kragtige, positiewe rol daarin speel om jou vorentoe te lei na die toekoms wat Hy vir jou beplan het. En daar is niks beter as om met Hom te praat oor hoe ons die jaar wat pas verby is, verwerk het; en hoe ons vir die een wat kom, gaan beplan nie.

Filippense 3:12,13 Ek sê nie dat ek dit alles al het of die doel al bereik het nie, maar ek span my in om dit alles myne te maak omdat Christus Jesus my reeds Syne gemaak het. Broers, ek verbeel my nie dat ek dit alles al het nie. Maar een ding doen ek: ek maak my los van wat agter is en strek my uit na wat voor is.

Dit is wat die apostel Paulus sê wanneer hy besin oor sy verlede, hede en toekoms. En die waarheid is dat nie een van ons perfek is nie. Ons het almal foute gemaak. Ons almal het nog ‘n lang pad om te gaan. Vergeet dus die verlede en strek jou daarna uit om die doel wat God aan jou gestel het, te bereik. Want …

Dis Sy Woord. Vars … vir jou … vandag.

Philippians 3:12,13 I don’t mean that I am exactly what God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal. But I continue trying to reach it and make it mine. That’s what Christ Jesus wants me to do. It is the reason he made me his. Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me.

That’s the Apostle Paul reflecting on his past, present and future. And the truth is that none of us is perfect. We’ve all made mistakes. We all still have a long way to go. So forget the past, and try as hard as you can to reach the goal that God’s set before you. Because …
