2 Peter 3:10-12 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed. Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire? (NRSV)

Your answer to that question is going to depend entirely on your relationship with God. Because we’ll all be there for it, heading either in one direction or the other.

Yesterday we talked about God’s patience, His mercy, His grace – all of which we can rely on when we stumble and fall to enable us always to turn back to Him and ask His forgiveness. We should never lose sight of that or doubt that because His patient mercy and grace will gently but surely lead us to repentance.
But neither should we forget that the end will come like a thief in the night when we least expect it. And when that end comes for you and me, it’s all over. The opportunity to repent will be gone. The message for you and me in all that?
Lead lives of holiness and godliness … because the end may come sooner than you think.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
