I was in India recently speaking at a conference in Bangalore. During afternoon tea I was chatting with a colleague of mine called George Lucas … no, not the one who made all those Star Wars movies. George is a man well into his seventies. His wife of fifty years had passed away just a few weeks earlier after being bed ridden for twelve years, so it was a tough time for him.
Anyhow, trying to make light conversation over our cup of chai, he asks me, “How much are you paying for a haircut in Australia?” Not a bad question actually.
So we did the conversion from dollars to rupees and I answered him, “About 800 rupees is a pretty average price.”
He shrieked and I said “What, what??”
“I am telling you,” says George. “I am paying only 8 rupees for a haircut.” So it turns out George gets 100 haircuts to my one. Hey, he’ll be having haircuts in heaven and still be way ahead of me on my next haircut in Australia.
Now George is by no means a wealthy man. He’s been through a lot. And yet he has a presence, a peace, a joy, a calm delight in his soul that makes you just want to be around him. You see, George knows – it’s not about money.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
