Download audio fileAs you look at your life today, right here and now, would you say that you’re flourishing in life or not? Come on, is “flourishing” an adjective that you could safely use to describe where you’re at … or not?
A plant in good soil – with just the right amount of sunlight, the right drainage and so on – flourishes, doesn’t it? But you could take that same plant and put it in another part of the garden – perhaps with too much shade, or not quite enough water, or bad soil – and while it might survive, it’ll never burst forth with the foliage, the flowers, the fruit, the way it was meant to.
And that picture of a plant flourishing (or not) is a good way to take stock of our lives; where we’re at, how we’re travelling, whether or not we’re living the life that Jesus died and rose again to give us.
Let me come back to it. It’s a hard question, but answer it honestly to yourself. Are you flourishing in your life, or not?
John 8:31,32 So Jesus said to the Jews who believed in him, “If you continue to accept and obey my teaching, you are really my followers. You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”
One of the biggest reasons that I see for those who believe in Jesus not really flourishing, not really living the abundant life that He came to give them, is that they don’t listen to Him.
They’re living the life that the world out there says should work, and yet it doesn’t. But when we get Jesus’ teaching into our hearts, when we accept it as true, when we start living it, obeying Him, it sets us free finally to flourish – finally to become all that He made us to be.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
