2 Corinthians 10:3-5 Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards; for the weapons of our warfare are not merely human, but they have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ. (NRSV)

Download audio fileIt’s funny how many blind spots each of us actually has in our makeup. Of course, on our own, we can’t see them. That’s why, I guess, they’re called blind spots. But we sure do feel their consequences … oh, yeah. And they hurt!
Have you ever noticed how readily we can hang on to ideas and opinions that (a) aren’t all that rational and (b) aren’t all that helpful? Take for instance the idea that “I know best. I have to get my way all the time.”
Obviously none of us knows best in everything, and if we all expected to get our own way each time, it’d be chaos. Yet we still hang onto that.
Selfishness is another common one. We’re pretty good at defending that. Pride is another big one, giving us an unteachable heart. Invariably we have more than one area of our lives where we hold out against God. He calls those places “strongholds”; fortresses of the mind that stand and defend themselves against God.
But He wants to set you free from those with His supernatural power.

I like to think of strongholds as those things that we hang onto really strongly. And the sad thing is that while we’re hanging onto them, our hands aren’t free to take the blessings that God wants to give us.
So … what strongholds, what proud obstacles, do you have raised up against God? Will you lay them down? Will you take every thought captive to obey Christ?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
