Phillippians 3:18-21 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. (ESV)

The world is full distractions. Some of them are very good distractions. But little by little they add up, and before you know it you’re on a slippery slide hurtling downward away from God.

I pray that God’s blessed you with enough food to eat, a roof over your head, clothing and some loving relationships. And hey, on top of those basics, it’s great to watch an entertaining movie, or shout until you’re hoarse for your favourite sporting team, or take a bit of a holiday.

There’s nothing wrong with any of those things, until … they become the main things in our lives. Until we want more and more of them. Until they take us so far from God that in our thoughts, words, deeds, in our hopes, dreams and desires, we become, in effect, enemies of the Cross. Listen up:

How do many walk life’s journey? As enemies of the cross of Christ, never filled, never satisfied, unwittingly haven having chosen the low road toward destruction. But you and I are citizens of heaven. We’re waiting for Jesus to return.

Friend, in your journey, in your walk through this life, God has called you to take the high road. Don’t become an enemy of the cross.

That’s His Word. Fresh … for you … today.
