Titus 2:11,12 That is the way we should live, because God’s grace has come. That grace can save everyone. It teaches us not to live against God and not to do the bad things the world wants to do. It teaches us to live on earth now in a wise and right way—a way that shows true devotion to God.

Satisfaction and contentment – these are things that we all yearn for; that sense of fulfilment, that sense at the end of a long, hard day that it was all worth it, even if you are tired. Why is it then that so many people are always clamouring for more?

It’s all too easy to live our lives constantly waiting, hoping for the next big thing – never satisfied in the present, always longing for the next promotion, the next salary increase … the next thing.

I wonder if perhaps that rings a bell for you too. What are you constantly wishing for, hoping for, longing for?

Sure, the Bible talks quite a bit about having hope for the future; a certain, unfailing hope in Christ, a hope that will never fail. But it also talks rather a lot about the present.

Titus 2:11,12 That is the way we should live, because God’s grace has come. That grace can save everyone. It teaches us not to live against God and not to do the bad things the world wants to do. It teaches us to live on earth now in a wise and right way—a way that shows true devotion to God.

This is about the present. God’s grace has come. It’s a done deal. And it’s not just about the future – it also teaches us how to live here and now … today … not doing the bad stuff that we used to do.

No! God’s grace leads us to live a good life here on earth now; a life of wisdom, a life that shows true devotion to God.

Sure, by all means, have hope for tomorrow. Look forward to good things. But right here, right now, let the grace of God, which has already come to you in Christ, lead you into a life of wisdom and goodness. That’s how to be satisfied in the present.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
