My wife and I recently moved house to be closer to our grandchildren. It was a move we were happy about. But as anybody who’s ever moved house will tell you, it’s one of the most stressful things you can do.
Sorting out, packing up, organising electricity and gas at both ends, changing your address with all and sundry… and that’s even before the moving day comes. Then the move, unpacking the boxes, figuring out where to put stuff – it’s like two grinding weeks of physical and mental exhaustion.
Halfway through, I realised that under all that pressure we were becoming short with one another, transactional, snapping occasionally in a way that we don’t normally do.
“Hang on a minute,” I thought. “This ain’t right.” And it wasn’t! It never is. Pressure is no excuse for that sort of behaviour.
Colossians 3:14 Together with these things, the most important part of your new life is to love each other. Love is what holds everything together in perfect unity.
Sometimes, under all that pressure, you just need to stop and take a deep breath – as we did during our move – to realise that the most important part of our new life is to love each other.
Are you getting this? It’s the most important thing! Because love is what holds everything together in perfect unity
So no matter what you have going on, how much pressure you’re under, remember this: the most important thing is love.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
