If you tell me today that you care about someone, that you love them, my response to that is, well, fine. But how do you show it? How do you tell them in a language that they can comprehend, that you truly love them? How do they know that, beyond any shadow of a doubt?
Because that’s the point, isn’t it? Love isn’t just a feeling that you carry around in your heart. In other words, it’s not just a thing, not just a noun. Love is also a verb. It’s a doing word.
1 John 3:18 My children, our love should not be only words and talk. No, our love must be real. We must show our love by the things we do.
Who is it in your life right at the moment whom you love, but who probably doesn’t know deep down, beyond any doubt, that you actually do love them? Who looks at what you say and do (or perhaps, what you don’t say and don’t do) and is left wondering whether you really do love them?
Now ask yourself: what can I do today, to let them know that I really love them? What small act of kindness, what word of encouragement, what little surprise can I give them today, that’ll put any question of my love for them beyond any doubt?
And here’s the funny thing about love. It’s often the smallest thing that will show someone that you truly care.
Feelings aren’t enough. Your love has to be real. Show them your love by the things you do.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
