Sometimes you can find yourself in a deep, dark hole. It’s just the way life goes. Now those holes come in many different shapes and sizes, but they’re always deep and always dark.
When was the last time you found yourself in that hole? Was it through the consequences of your own stupid mistake? Or perhaps as a result of circumstances beyond your control in a world that’s just unfair?
No matter the cause, a deep, dark hole is still a deep, dark hole. And well-meaning people come along to preach at you, blame you even, as though that’s ever going to help.
But when one of God’s children is in that place, He takes an entirely different tack:
1 Kings 19:5,6 Then Elijah lay down under the bush and went to sleep. An angel came to him and touched him. The angel said, “Get up and eat!” Elijah looked around, and by his head there was a cake that had been baked over coals and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then went back to sleep.
As someone once said, when Elijah battled depression God didn’t send an angel to preach at him, to tell him to pray more or to condemn him for how he felt, He sent an angel to comfort him while he rested.
Putting the shoe on the other foot here for just a moment, some of the people in our lives, those who are hurting, those who are suffering loss, just need to be comforted. And there’ll be times in the not too distant future when the angel that God sends them is you or me.
Some people just need to be comforted.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
