James 1:27 The worship that God wants is this: caring for orphans or widows who need help and keeping yourself free from the world’s evil influence. This is the kind of worship that God accepts as pure and good.

And yet the world over, there are children living in such poverty; families that would give anything to have just 10 % of what we have.
I was visiting a school for underprivileged children in India a few years back and I couldn’t help but notice that there were no beds in the accommodation block where they lived. I asked the principal, “Why?” to which he answered that they simply couldn’t afford beds. So where did they sleep? On the concrete floor of course! Where else?
That really got to me. So I mentioned it to a few friends and between us we sent a bit of money across for beds. A few weeks later we received a photo of these beautiful boys in their new beds. For most of them, it was the very first time that they’d ever had their own bed.
This is what the principal wrote: At home, most of these children sleep on floors plastered with cow manure. These beds will give them a good sleep away from the rats and cockroaches. Thank you so much. Wow!
You can’t spend more than two minutes reading about Jesus – what He did, what He said – without coming to the conclusion that He was passionate about the poor. He still is. For me, it’s one of the things that says that this Jesus is for real.

Perhaps you and I can’t solve the problem of global poverty – but tonight … tonight, those boys are sleeping in beds.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
