1 Peter 2:24,25 Christ carried our sins in his body on the cross. He did this so that we would stop living for sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you were healed. You were like sheep that went the wrong way. But now you have come back to the Shepherd and Protector of your lives.

Download audio fileSuffering has a funny way of pulling us off course. We want to follow God’s call on our lives, but the moment the going gets tough, a whole bunch of people fall by the wayside, a whole bunch of people want to turn back.
One of the things that’s quite striking about Jesus, is how focussed He was on His mission in this world.
Part of that mission was to show us what God’s really like. That wasn’t easy. The religious leaders gave Him a hard time. People deserted Him in droves when they didn’t like what He had to say. And yet, He said it anyway. He did it anyway. He showed us what God is really like.
The other part of His mission was getting Himself nailed to that Cross. He knew that one day, He’d have to suffer terribly. That would’ve been scary.
When suffering comes our way, we tend to lose our focus; our direction; the sense of God’s calling on our lives. Because suffering doesn’t fit with our world-view of what life, our life, should be like.
But Jesus just kept going, straight as an arrow, to that Cross. Because He knew, that suffering was part of the plan. He knew that His suffering would save the likes of you and me. He just knew.

When you’re suffering, stay focussed on your mission because God will work through you with a power that’ll take your breath away. Stay focussed on your mission.
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
