I imagine that if I rocked up to Buckingham Palace and told the young chappie with the funny bearskin hat and the red tunic at the front gate that I wanted to see the Queen.

I’m thinking the last thing he’s going to do is say to me, “Sure Berni, no problem. Come on in. In fact Her Majesty is sitting there and she’s been waiting for you. The kettle’s on.” It’s a pretty fair bet that’s not what he’s going to say.

And rightly so. Access to people in high places is restricted. Kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers, the CEOs and presidents of large corporations, they can’t see every Tom, Dick or Harry that comes knocking on their door.

I think sometimes, that’s the image we have of going to see God. Deep down, we imagine that asking Him for something is a bit of an imposition; that we’re being a bit presumptive.

After all, God has bigger fish to fry, wars and economies and holding the universe together, just to name a few. Much, much more important than the minutia that we want to drop on His plate. No … I can’t ask God for that!!

But nothing, could be further from the truth.

This was in accordance with the eternal purpose that he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have access to God in boldness and confidence through faith in him. (Ephesians 3:11-12)

How often do you think about going to God in boldness and in confidence? Normally, we think about stumping up to Him in humility, in contrition perhaps. And sure, that is appropriate.

But can I tell you, when my father was still alive, if I was ever in trouble, if I ever needed some advice, if I ever needed help with anything, I knew, absolutely 100%, that I could pick up the phone and ask him. It was just something I knew.

And these days, my three children know that if they’re ever in trouble, if they ever need some advice, if they ever need help with anything, they know, absolutely 100%, that they can pick up the phone and ask me. It’s something they just know.

Just as my dad was always there for me, I will always be there for them. It’s just the way it is.

And, if we fathers here on earth are like that, imagine how much more our Father in Heaven is like that.

What do you need help with today? What troubles do you have, that you could go to God with, today? What advice, what wisdom do you need, today?

Because you can go to God with those things, in boldness and confidence.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
