Yep, there seems to be a lot of argument and vitriol in the public square about things like sin and heaven and hell just at the moment. It’s almost like one tribe trying to beat up the other tribe, both ways. But for me, there seems to be something missing from the debate.

Hey listen, I have a question. Let’s assume for a minute that God is indeed God.

He creates the whole universe, then He puts us in it – goodness only knows why, but He does – and we then turn our backs on Him the way a rebellious teenager turns their back on their parents. Who needs God? What would He know anyway?

You still with me? Okay, so here’s my question. What would you do with that – I mean, if you were God? At the end of the day, how would you and I treat you and me if you and I were God instead of being … well, you and me?

I mean, would you become Jesus? Would you walk around amongst the very people who’d turned their backs on you? Would you allow them to beat you, spit on you, crucify you? Would you?

I’m not sure that’s how I’d have played it.

1 John 3:16 This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us.

Indeed He did. He suffered and died for us – the very same people who one day would turn our backs on Him.

The notion of right and wrong, sin and forgiveness, heaven and hell … well, all that seems to be becoming so offensive these days. There’s a lot of vitriol about all that stuff out there in the public square these days. Fair enough … but we don’t seem to be talking all that much about love anymore.

This is how we know what real love is: Jesus gave his life for us.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
