Matthew 7:13-14 You can enter true life only through the narrow gate. The gate to hell is very wide, and there is plenty of room on the road that leads there. Many people go that way. But the gate that opens the way to true life is narrow. And the road that leads there is hard to follow. Only a few people find it.

Question: on a scale of one to ten, how satisfied, how content are you in your relationship with Jesus? Is it a good journey, or has it become a difficult one?

It’s easy to imagine that once you’ve decided to follow Jesus, it’s all going to be smooth sailing. After all, God loves you, Jesus died for you, why wouldn’t He want to make it a pleasant, easy journey? Perhaps that’s why so many so-called Christians, after a while, end up disappointed and disillusioned.

Is this what I signed up for? Shouldn’t it be easier than this? Shouldn’t it be better than this?

Now, I’m the first one to tell you that the decision I took over two decades ago, to make Jesus the Lord of my life, was the best decision I’ve ever made. For me, there’s no doubt about that. But living out that decision day by day since then, well, that’s been anything but easy.

See “easy” is about living life for yourself. “Easy” is living out the “if it feels good do it” motto of our generation. The consequences aren’t always that wonderful, mind you, but living like that is, in a sense, easy.

But the instant you choose to follow Jesus, it gets hard – very hard.

Matthew 7:13-14 You can enter true life only through the narrow gate. The gate to hell is very wide, and there is plenty of room on the road that leads there. Many people go that way. But the gate that opens the way to true life is narrow. And the road that leads there is hard to follow. Only a few people find it.

Of course following Jesus is going to be difficult. That’s a given. But look at where the journey takes you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
