1 Corinthians 13:12 It is the same with us. Now we see God as if we are looking at a reflection in a mirror. But then, in the future, we will see him right before our eyes. Now I know only a part, but at that time I will know fully, as God has known me.

One of the biggest mistakes that I think any of us can make when it comes to this Jesus is to start imagining that He’s someone different to who He actually is; because when it comes right down to it, a lot of people aren’t all that comfortable with the Jesus of the Bible.

A few years back in the UK, I met a Canadian by the name of Garry. Now the scary thing was that he looked almost identical to a dear friend of mine, Bob, who’d passed away a couple of years earlier… same height, same face, same hairdo, same age, everything. It was uncanny. So every time I went to speak with Garry, it felt as though I was talking to Bob. I had to work really hard to make sure that when I was talking with Garry I was actually talking with Garry, if that makes sense.

We can do that – right? We substitute someone else’s image into the face of the person right in front of us and then we treat them like that other person.

I mean, take Jesus. I used to hear people talk about Jesus and I’d substitute my image of Jesus in His place; a churchy, stained glass window, religious kind of image.

But they were talking about someone else – an edgy, real, in your face Jesus who healed lepers, loved the unlovable, railed against religious hypocrisy.

How easy is it to get it wrong? And at what price? Because one day, for better or for worse, we’re going to meet the real Jesus.

1 Corinthians 13:12 It is the same with us. Now we see God as if we are looking at a reflection in a mirror. But then, in the future, we will see him right before our eyes. Now I know only a part, but at that time I will know fully, as God has known me.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Hi Troy, in Fresh I mostly use the Easy to Read Version (ERV) produced by Bible League … my heart is to make the Word as accessible as possible to as many people as possible. Where I use a different version (and sometimes I do) it is noted on the page and in the eDevotional emails. Bless ya heaps! Berni@CW
