Christmas carols are one of the great traditions of Christmas. They evoke such great memories of years gone by, and they turn our hearts, to the greatness of what Christmas is all about. And honestly, I think the greatest carol of them all, is Silent Night.

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

At midnight mass on the 24th of December 1818, this carol “Stille Nacht! Heilige Nacht” was heard for the first time in St Nikolaus church in Oberndorf, Austria. The congregation listened transfixed as this carol rang out through the church.

Whenever I hear that carol, my thoughts turn to that still quiet night and what was going on in a Father’s heart as He looked down to see His Son being born – the joy in His Father’s heart, knowing that the Son of God had just become the Son of Man and breathed His first little breath; and yet at the same time, the pain in His Father’s heart, knowing that this Jesus had just begun an inexorable journey toward a cross of suffering and death for the likes of you and me.

The very first Christmas present … given freely and lovingly to you and me by our Father.

John 3:16 Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life.

Jesus; the greatest gift that will ever be given. Jesus; the gift of such great love – the love of a Father who wants you back.

I don’t know where you’re at – but today, here and now, let me encourage you … no, implore you … to unwrap that Gift afresh and anew today.

Jesus; wrap your heart around Him. Jesus.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Beautiful! Thank you for reminding us that the beauty of this season is because and only because of HIM, our Savior.

I am so thankful Jesus came into this world that if we believe we shall have eternal life. I believe this to be true.
