However many times you’ve celebrated Christmas in your life, it’s always a big thing. A special thing. But that first Christmas was anything but big, anything bit special.

Without doubt, my favourite Christmas carol is this one:

Silent Night, Holy Night.
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon virgin, mother and child.
Holy infant, tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.

It was a night like any other in Bethlehem and the surrounding region. People had gone to work, children had been to school. Just another day.

Luke 2:8 That night, some shepherds were out in the fields near Bethlehem watching their sheep.

That’s just what shepherds did. So, as nights go, it was far from remarkable. Nobody was expecting the birth of God’s Son. Nobody was expecting the Saviour of the World, the Messiah, to slip quietly into a stable. It just happened.

I don’t know where you are in your relationship with God at this point. Perhaps you’ve accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, perhaps not, yet. And yes, I know, today is just another day; another very ordinary day. But it’s on ordinary days like these that God does some of His most amazing works. It was on an ordinary day like today, that the world was poised to receive its Saviour.

So, as ordinary days go, if you haven’t yet received Jesus as your King, or if perhaps it’s been a while since you had anything much to do with Him, then there couldn’t possibly be a better day for you to take a step towards Him, than today.

You see, Jesus came for you. He came so that you could be set free from your past, forgiven your sins and brought back into a close, tender, eternal relationship with Him.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
