We all have someone in our life who’s difficult. You know that person who just seems to mess things up for you. So might I ask you, how do you treat that person in your life?

It’s amazing how many things these days are disposable. I remember as a child, if my socks got a hole in them, my mother would darn them. That’s where that old saying, “A stitch in times saves nine,” comes from.

But these days, you buy something, it’s almost always wrapped in layers of elaborate packaging, and each layer is torn off and, yep, we throw it away – disposable coffee cups, nappies, raincoats and even smartphones.

Hey! People buy a new smartphone, sometimes each year, even though their current one is still in perfect working order. You name it, we’ve figured out how to get rid of the old one – to throw it away. And why not? After all, we live in a disposable world.

And interestingly, the more affluent we’ve become, the less we rely on each other for sheer survival, the more disposable our relationships have become too.

You know how it goes. You’re busy. You have your own problems, your own challenges, your own life to lead. And so, when a relationship gets just a bit too difficult, when it starts disrupting your agenda, your priorities, well, the easiest thing to do, is simply throw it away.

It seems we’ve almost forgotten how to hang in there; how to help one another through; how to bear one another’s burdens.

Galatians 6:2 Help each other with your troubles. When you do this, you are obeying the law of Christ.

It takes time, it takes effort, it takes emotional energy, to help the next person with their troubles. And yet, that’s exactly what Jesus is calling you and me to do.

Help each other with your troubles.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
