Few of us ever give too much thought to the fact that God has gone to a lot of trouble to make us who we are today.
I think sometimes we take ourselves too much for granted – or at least we take the gifts and abilities that God’s given us too much for granted. And here’s how that happens.
You live with your unique gifts and abilities 24/7. In fact they’ve always been a part of you, so they don’t feel as though they’re anything special – certainly not comparable with that super-spiritual person over there.
So I want to encourage you today to do a quick stocktake of the things that you’re really good at; the things you really enjoy doing. Write down the things that you know you can do better than just about anyone else you know.
And right there, you have a list of your God–given gifts and abilities. I know, you don’t think they’re much at all. But you see, to the rest of us – those of us who can’t do what you can do – we think they’re amazing! Here’s one of my favourite Scriptures:
Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV)
Why is it a favourite? Because it tells me that you and I are handcrafted by God with a very specific purpose in mind: to do the good works that He has already prepared for us to do.
So stop comparing yourself with others … and get on with it!
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
