Download audio fileIn the depth of your heart, in the very core of your being, do you know, do you understand, do you comprehend what it is that Jesus did for you when He went to that brutal Cross. Well, do you?
One of the worst things that can ever happen to us is when someone close, someone whom we trusted, stabs us in the back. Man, that hurts! We’ve all had been there and it’s not an experience that we’re keen ever to revisit.
So imagine how it must have felt for Jesus to have one of His trusted inner circle, Judas, betray Him for thirty pieces of silver. Remember, it was a betrayal that would cost Jesus His life.
And yet, knowing that full well, on the night He was betrayed, firstly He celebrated the Passover Feast with the twelve disciples, including Judas. And then … then He famously washed their feet.
John 13:12 When Jesus finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and went back to the table. He asked, “Do you understand what I did for you?”
Twenty four feet, one hundred and twenty toes – Jesus washed them all, including the feet, including the toes, of Judas His betrayer. Even though Jesus knew that in just a few hours, Judas would betray Him, He still washed the guy’s feet. Think about that. Think about the courage, the love, the grace, the mercy that it took to wash Judas’ feet.
Every time that I get this sense that I’m not good enough – Surely God would never forgive me! – I remember Judas and Jesus and the sound of that water trickling down over those feet.
“Do you understand what I did for you?”
No, I’ll never fully comprehend it. Courage, love, grace, mercy. Jesus.
Do you understand what He did for you?
That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
