Titus 3:4-7 But then the kindness and love of God our Saviour was made known. He saved us because of his mercy, not because of any good things we did. He saved us through the washing that made us new people. He saved us by making us new through the Holy Spirit. God poured out to us that Holy Spirit fully through Jesus Christ our Saviour. We were made right with God by his grace. God saved us so that we could be his children and look forward to receiving life that never ends.

It’s easy, amidst all that we have going on in our lives, to miss the main point. We hear those Christians talking about the stuff they talk about … religion. Nope, not for me. But that’s not the main thing – not at all.

Sadly, we live in an age where the notion of black and white, right and wrong, honouring God and not honouring God, isn’t just foreign to most people, but downright offensive.

How dare these Christians impose their outdated, narrow-minded morality on the rest of us?

That’s how the thinking goes. Hey, that’s how my thinking used to go, back in the day. And yet, at the same time, with all the so-called wisdoms and freedoms that this new world order offers, there have never been more broken homes, and lonely, hungry, disadvantaged people.

Even those living in affluence, the lap of luxury, know they’re missing something. So might I share with you the heart, the nub, of the Christian message today? It speaks into the reality of our human condition. It goes something like this:

Titus 3:4-7 But then the kindness and love of God our Saviour was made known. He saved us because of his mercy, not because of any good things we did. He saved us through the washing that made us new people. He saved us by making us new through the Holy Spirit. God poured out to us that Holy Spirit fully through Jesus Christ our Saviour. We were made right with God by his grace. God saved us so that we could be his children and look forward to receiving life that never ends.

Jesus came to save us from the wrath of God – that we each so richly deserve – of His own free will, of His kindness and love and mercy and grace.

Jesus came to save you.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
