Love, love, love. It makes for great pop songs, doesn’t it? But love is something that gets drained out of us through the pressures of life. One day you wake up and you realise that you haven’t been doing such a fantastic job of loving the people around you.

Can I ask you something today? When was the last time that you did something outrageous? Something out of the ordinary? Something so creative that it reached deep into someone’s heart and said – I love you – in the most powerful and amazing way?

Have you noticed how mundane life can be? Recently I’ve been working some really long hours, and it all felt like I was repeating the same day over and over again. I had to throw so much of myself into what I was doing that it drained me completely empty.

Okay, so a good part of life is the daily grind. But I wonder whether we don’t sometimes forget how special and how unique and how creative we really are.

Imagine if we took just an ounce of that special creativity that God has woven into our DNA and used it to tell someone how much we love them – a husband, a wife, a son, a daughter, a friend, a colleague –just a single ounce. Not tomorrow, not the next day, not next week. I mean today.

1 John 3:23
This is what God commands: that we believe in his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love each other as he commanded

When we believe in Jesus with all our hearts, the natural outworking of that is that we should love one another just as He commanded … with sacrificial love, unconditional love, unending love, creative love.

So when was the last time that you loved someone outrageously like that? When was the last time that you loved someone just as Jesus commanded?

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
